![]() 5e is built for streamlining combat checks and for actual roleplaying. 5e seems optimized a lot for pen and paper and for giving the DM more say generally in how encounters play out. So, if we really were to do this and change out/improve the core of the game, which ruleset would give us the most functionality and replayability over the somewhat simplified 3.0e ruleset that NWN uses and how much of this new desired ruleset is viable for translation into the game?Īfter analyzing all the different rulesets, it is my firm opinion that the best D&D ruleset that would translate well into a game, and by extension, into NWN would be D&D 3.5e/Pathfinder. Which brings to mind two important questions. This is actually a very exciting possibility although the work it entails is equally massive to match. I do know that is why some models and such were never released.Beamdog has been talking about making a lot more of the source for NWN soft-coded so modders can add to or even implement a totally new D&D ruleset if they so choose. So it could pass some points only to get shot down at others. Everytime We/DLA did something it had to go through approval from Atari, Wizards of The Coast, and Bioware. However, if you are talking about a lot of the DLA stuff that ended up on the Proverbial Cutting Room floor like a lot of the actual Dragonlance content, then yeah a lot of that I believe was push back from WoTC. I remember crunching pretty hard on that. I fixed X, Y, Z, and the QA guy tested it and we made the deadline. A lot of our team was out at GENCON and places like that when WoTC and Bioware came back and said "X, Y, Z need to be fixed by tomorrow or the deal is off". I was on that team in fact it was myself and our QA lead that made sure The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr was released. I never understood why the DLA stuff was cancelled tho. I liked a lot the new graphics which are really mostly thank to the DLA/WCoC team. They had to release it early or risk that it would never see the light. Yet, I have no affilitation with Beamdog. I have nothing to do with Beamdog or this product, other than being a huge fan of the original Neverwinter Nights who had a chance to be part of two professional products that ended up being released by Bioware. I didn't know about the EE edition until someone else told me about it. I worked on the Bioware 1.69 patch that is in the Diamond Edition and never was paid or given anything for that. I was a developer on The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr. That is one example of things added in the background that the average user won't benefit from until people start creating things with it.Īlso. They actually made random dungeon stuff potentially way easier, and player homes, and things like that with some NewArea() commands for creators. It was designed more in the old Diablo style approach with random dungeon layouts. ![]() Infinite Dungeons is potentially well infinite depending upon if you enjoy it or not. The Wyvern Crown of Cormyr is not exactly short. It brings the master server list back.Īlso the Premium Modules that come with the Deluxe edition or as individual DLC once on steam have not been available for quite some time and are way longer than what I recognize as intentional exaggeration 10 minutes. It has some PostFX type stuff that I can live with or without. So while module makers and community members ready to make new content are rather excited about a lot of the things they have hadded, is right that there is NOT a ton added the average user will see again. What they have added so far has mostly been behind the scenes things. Considering the price is really super high I'd say wait and look at what it actually adds compared to the diamond edition.īesides, those modules aren't good at all, they're buggy and like 10 minutes long at most, they seem more like a simple tutorial for the toolset or demos.ĭon't listen to the propaganda, do your research, watch the streams and videos and judge by yourself.
